It isn’t easy to make specific predictions about the future of ITAM tools, as many factors, such as technological advancements, market trends, and consumer preferences, influence it. However, a few trends are likely to shape the future of ITAM tools. The evolution of ITAM tools is likely to be influenced by several factors, including:
ITAM tools are likely to continue to evolve with the introduction of new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). These technologies will enable ITAM tools to be more intelligent and capable of handling complex tasks, such as analyzing large amounts of data or identifying usage patterns, and offer near-real-time optimization and remediation advice.
Many established ITAM tools have been using these technologies for years, but the actual true potential hasn’t been reached.
Changing needs of organizations
As the needs of organizations change, ITAM tools are likely to evolve to meet these changing needs. For example, as organizations increasingly adopt cloud-based software and services, ITAM tools may need to be able to track and manage these assets differently.
ITAM tools will likely become a commodity, and the offering will change to accommodate this new buying behavior. As such, we’ll see an increase in modular solutions that offer consumers real service cost flexibility.
Increased focus on security
As the use of software continues to grow, there is likely to be an increased focus on security to protect against cyber threats. ITAM tools may need to be able to track and manage assets in a way that ensures compliance with security standards and regulations.
ITAM tools might need data encryption/decryption capabilities to provide the right level of assurance, by design, for those use cases where it is required.
Integration with other systems
ITAM tools will likely continue integrating with other systems, such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and customer relationship management (CRM) systems. This may enable organizations to get a more comprehensive view of their assets and manage them more effectively.
The ITAM tools of the future will be able to leverage all the existing relevant data in a given environment in a simplified way.
Greater emphasis on user experience
As ITAM tools become more prevalent, there is likely to be an increased focus on making them easy to use and intuitive. This may involve developing user-friendly interfaces and providing helpful resources and support to users.
While for many of the ITAM tools out there, the UI/UX seems stuck in time, we expect an increased focus on the user experience with more modern ways of data visualization, data storytelling and interacting with the tool.
