Licenseware Encryptor: Free, Fast, and Secure Data Obfuscation for the SAM Community

Data security shouldn’t slow anyone down. In software asset management, we deal with procurement details, usage data, inventory exports, licensing positions, usage telemetry, and endless Excel sheets. Sharing this information safely across partners, auditors, tools, and internal stakeholders is a constant challenge.

Today we’re fixing that.

👋 Say hello to Licenseware Encryptor, a free, SAM-ready encryption tool designed to make sensitive data sharing effortless.

It anonymizes exactly what you need while preserving the structure and relationships that SAM datasets rely on. No paid licenses, no complicated workflows, just predictable, consistent, repeatable encryption that fits right into your process.

Why We Built Encryptor

Organisations in SAM and ITAM constantly have to strike a balance between transparency and confidentiality. We’ve seen teams struggle with tools that either break referential integrity or require engineering skills to use.

So we built the encryption tool we wished existed.

Licenseware Encryptor keeps your joins, relationships, and analytical context intact by encrypting marked columns with a consistent key or hash.
That means you can share data confidently… without breaking your datasets.

Perfect for workshops, third-party reviews, audits, sample data sharing, consultancy collaboration, or simply keeping sensitive fields out of view.

PowerShell Version Now Available

We just released the PowerShell edition of Licenseware Encryptor, making local encryption workflows even smoother.

Quick workflow

  1. Add “(encrypt)” to the column headers you want anonymized — works for CSVs and multi-tab XLSX files.
  2. Drop your files into the input folder.
  3. Run the PowerShell script and specify your secret key.
  4. Get encrypted outputs where all relationships are preserved thanks to consistent encryption across files.

📢 New: Catalogue-Based Mass Encryption (Even Easier for Complex Sources)

Local, unilateral obfuscation across multiple Excels (including all tabs) and multiple CSVs, while preserving every relationship, just became even easier with the new catalogue mode.

Here’s the improved workflow:

1) Create a folder structure

  • Parent folder
  • Child input and output folders

2) Add everything in one place

  • Raw files → input folder
  • PowerShell script → parent folder

3) Run the script in catalogue mode

This scans every file in the input folder, extracts all headers from all tabs, dedupes them, and compiles them into a headers catalogue CSV.

4) Edit the catalogue

Mark exactly which fields you want encrypted, then save.
This becomes your reusable obfuscation template.

5) Run obfuscate mode and enter your salt

The tool uses 🔒 SHA-256, giving you a one-way hash.
A remap key file is generated so you can reverse-map values locally if needed.

6) Collect your outputs

Everything is encrypted and written cleanly into the output folder.

Why This Is a Game Changer

You can now maintain standardised, boilerplate encryption catalogues for:

  • recurring customer data sources
  • multi-tab exports like RVTools (yes, every tab)
  • software inventory dumps
  • complex SAM datasets with dozens of schemas
  • multi-vendor data ingestion pipelines

Instead of manually tagging each file, you build once and reuse forever.

This is a massive time saver for consultancies, tooling teams, and enterprises dealing with high-volume or repetitive SAM data.

Built for the Community 💙

Encryptor is free and open because SAM professionals need tools that keep pace with the complexity of the industry. This release is a step toward empowering the entire community with accessible, modular, and efficient solutions, the same philosophy behind everything we build at Licenseware.

If you’re part of a consultancy, an enterprise ITAM team, a managed services provider, or simply need a way to share anonymized datasets without losing structure, Encryptor is made for you.

What’s Next

We’ll keep expanding the tool with additional formats, UI options, and workflow integrations.
If you have ideas, requests, or feature suggestions, we’d love to hear them.

Download it, try it, share it with your team — and let us know how we can make it even better.
