LICENSEWARE raises 800,000 euro to accelerate international expansion, in a round led by BCR Seed Starter

Bucharest, 8 July 2026 LICENSEWARE, a Romanian technology company that has built a SaaS platform for intelligent software license management, announces the closing of a funding round of approximately 800,000 euro. The round was led by BCR Seed Starter, the first corporate venture capital (CVC) fund launched by a bank in Romania, which invested 500,000 euro, and was joined by Inspire Capital, business angel investors from the Bravva Angels community, and several of our existing shareholders.
We have built a modular SaaS platform that changes the way large and complex organizations manage their software assets, from enterprise applications to databases, SaaS subscriptions, and productivity tools, delivering better monitoring and traceability of efficiency, with substantial savings in operational costs.
This funding round reflects confidence in our vision of becoming a global standard platform for software license management and in the potential of the software asset management (SAM) market. We will use the capital to accelerate international expansion, grow our product development and sales teams, and strengthen integrations with the other tools and platforms our enterprise customers rely on.
“We reached product-market fit in 2025 and we now have enough market intelligence to know exactly what we need to build from a product perspective, while AI helps us level the playing field and compete head to head with the biggest players in the market. We will use this funding to accelerate international expansion, primarily in mature markets such as the US, the EU, and the UK, but also in our local market and in emerging markets (Australia, Canada, LATAM). BCR Seed Starter helps us build, at an accelerated pace, the roadmap and the pipeline that will support our next stage of growth”, said Alex Cojocaru, Co-founder and CEO, LICENSEWARE.
The LICENSEWARE platform automates the analysis and management of software licenses, enabling IT, procurement, and compliance teams to reduce audit risk, control costs more effectively, and extract actionable insights from data that already exists within the organization, without requiring additional tools or agents. Using proprietary engines and licensing logic specific to each major software vendor (Microsoft, Oracle, Adobe, Red Hat, etc.), LICENSEWARE reads every detail in the data, validates it with precision, and recommends next steps based on the extracted and validated information.
LICENSEWARE was founded in 2020 by Alex Cojocaru and Ciprian Grigore, later joined by Chris Allen and Adrian Mihalache, forming a complementary team with extensive international experience in software and IT asset management.
“We are investing in LICENSEWARE and backing a mature Romanian company that competes as an equal in a global market, with a solution validated by enterprise customers. Software asset management is an area where large organizations lose money without seeing where, and LICENSEWARE provides visibility and better governance of IT costs. The Seed Starter promise is for BCR to be a reference customer for local founders and to support technology made in Romania”, said Carmen Dibuș, CEO, BCR Seed Starter.
“LICENSEWARE has enterprise customers on three continents, validation from Gartner two years in a row, and a product for large companies that do not know what software they are paying for and how much of it they actually use. The software asset management market is growing precisely because every CFO in the world is looking for that answer, and the LICENSEWARE model proves that a company founded in Romania can build an internationally competitive solution, exactly the type of entrepreneurship BCR Seed Starter aims to support. In addition, a BCR Seed Starter investment means an analysis and governance process at banking standards, which, for founders, comes as a strong signal of trust in negotiations with enterprise customers, international investors, and commercial partners”, said Adrian Roșoagă, Chief Investment Officer, BCR Seed Starter.
The investment in LICENSEWARE is the third financing in the BCR Seed Starter portfolio, just over two years after the fund launched. For a startup at seed stage, having a banking CVC on the cap table carries more weight than the capital itself. It gives us access to the expertise, infrastructure, and customer base of Banca Comercială Română, one of the largest financial groups in Romania, which can become a reference customer, a testing ground for the product at enterprise scale, and a gateway to regional markets. LICENSEWARE is now headquartered at Builders House in Bucharest at AFI Park 1, a dedicated hub for startups powered by BCR and How to Web.
This round also included business angel investors from the Bravva Angels community and Inspire Capital.
“What convinced us, first of all, was the size of the problem LICENSEWARE solves. Software license management remains a subject that many companies do not address effectively, even though it generates significant costs and operational complexity. The team knows this market very well and is building a product that answers a real need, with global application potential. This is exactly the type of technology we look to support at Bravva”, said Gia Ciorabai, lead for this investment round within Bravva Angels.
“Over the years, we have learned that in the enterprise environment, trust is hard-earned. Organizations do not adopt a software solution simply because it is innovative, but because they are convinced it will reliably solve business problems with major impact and generate measurable value. These are exactly the reasons that convinced us to invest in LICENSEWARE. Alex and his team have a deep understanding of one of the most complex challenges organizations face in managing software assets, they understand with clarity why their product needs to exist, and they build with remarkable consistency in a field that is constantly evolving. This combination of domain knowledge, technical excellence, and the ability to address real problems gives us confidence in the long-term potential of the company”, said Cristina Irimie, Managing Partner, Inspire Capital.
Over the years, we have received international recognition and validation from the industry on multiple occasions. In 2022, we won the Spotlight competition at the How to Web conference, one of the most visible startup platforms in Central and Eastern Europe. LICENSEWARE was subsequently included twice in a row in the Gartner Market Guide for Software Asset Management Tools (the 2025 and 2026 editions), being named a Representative Vendor, a recognition granted to relevant vendors validated by independent analysts. To these we add awards such as ITAM Technology Innovation of the Year 2023, granted by ITAM Review, ranking #6 among Companies to Watch in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Central Europe 2025, and inclusion in the Innovation 35 ranking of the most innovative companies in Romania in 2025, confirming LICENSEWARE’s positioning as an emerging player with global traction in the field of software cost optimization.
