The bill

What drives the Microsoft 365 Copilot bill?

A seat price looks simple. Three things make the annual total larger than seats times price.

Bought, not used

A license is bought per user on an annual commitment, and the charge is the same whether or not the person opens Copilot.

Promotions end

The Copilot Business discount applies to the first year only, so the renewal is at the $21 list price unless a new offer applies.

Agents and credits

Microsoft bills select advanced AI features by usage, and agents built in Copilot Studio draw Copilot Credits on a separate meter.

GitHub Copilot

How much does GitHub Copilot cost per user?

GitHub charges per granted seat and includes a monthly pool of GitHub AI Credits. Usage beyond the pool is billed per credit.

Pooled credits

Business and Enterprise seats add their credits to a shared pool, so heavy users draw on light users' allowance before overage starts.

Overage

Beyond the pool, usage costs $0.01 per AI credit. Inline suggestions are unlimited and never consume credits.

One billing model

An enterprise picks seats with included credits or Copilot access with metered usage. The two cannot coexist in the same enterprise.

Integration

Why we built Copilot integrations

Microsoft and GitHub both report Copilot usage, each in its own admin center. A budget owner needs both next to each other and next to the rest of the software estate.

Why teams choose it

Copilot works inside the tools people already use: Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams for Microsoft 365 Copilot, the IDE and GitHub itself for GitHub Copilot.

What the vendor's tools show

Microsoft Graph publishes a per-user Copilot usage report with each user's last activity in each app. GitHub bills organizations and enterprises per granted seat and counts AI credits against the shared pool.

What they leave out

Each other. A developer can hold a Microsoft 365 Copilot seat and a GitHub Copilot seat on two invoices, and neither admin center shows the other, the Cursor seats or the token spend.

What our connector reads

  • Microsoft 365 Copilot: usage per user. Read by LCM and SIM.
  • GitHub Copilot: usage per user. Read by LCM and SIM.

In SIM

What does Copilot spend look like in SIM?

Software Inventory Manager (SIM) puts Copilot usage per user next to the rest of the software estate, and LICENSEWARE's LCM holds the contract side.

Cost per team

Microsoft 365 Copilot and GitHub Copilot usage per user from the two connections. Add the users up by team or cost centre and follow the total month by month.

Seats against use

Copilot seats on both products set against usage per user, so a seat nobody uses shows before the renewal.

Beside the estate

AI spend sits in the same inventory as SaaS subscriptions and installed software, so one review covers all three.

The contract side

LCM keeps the agreement, the seat count and the renewal date next to the usage, so a renewal starts from what was used.

More on AI cost management and every connection on data sources. Included in the Core plan, with no separate price.
